Tear To a Glass Eye

The "Tear To a Glass Eye" is an adaptation of a lure pattern, "The Black and Silver", given to me by Allan Liddle several years ago. The original has a silver tinsel body, fine tinsel strands for the wing and a bead chain head. I HATE bead chain so as it is not something I tend to keep in my fly tying kit I raided my wife's embroidery cupboard. I also prefer pearly lurex to plain silver and this is the result.

I have had great success with this "fly" This is one of these "what the hell is THAT" kind of flies but the wild broonies can't resist it.

Not the stupid ones anyway.

Ignore this WMD at your peril. Fish on the tail of a 2 / 3 fly cast on a floating line. It sinks like the Titanic. Often taken on the drop. This fly is certain to be banned by the UN security council within the next year or so.

Hook : Size 10
Tail : black marabou
Body: pearly lurexx over black thread to get the green effect.
Wing : very sparse olive flashbrite (the tear)
Head: white / pink glass embroidery bead (the glass eye)

It is important to keep the tying sparse and as slim as possible.
Profile
Fred Carrie started fishing in the mid 1960's, hillwalking in the 1970's and has been combining the two on and off ever since.

Fred runs the successful Wild Fishing Scotland web site and enjoys the hike up to the wild hill lochs as much as the fishing itself. The more uncharitable members of his family and friends say that is perhaps just as well.

Fred lives in Donside, Aberdeenshire with wife Monika.
